How to read this page
In Finland, PFAS-4 is not published. The pages show the sum of 20 PFAS (PFAS-20) against the EU limit of 100 ng/L; results below the laboratory's reporting limit are given with that limit ("<30 ng/L"). As soon as a source itemises the four EFSA compounds, the page switches to the PFAS-4 display with no other change.
Each municipality shows the latest published result of the distribution area with the highest quantified sum of 20 PFAS, otherwise the newest result below the reporting limit; the area is named on the page and the others are in the table. Regional operators (HSY for Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen, for instance) serve several municipalities with the same water.
Legal limits and dates in Finland
Finland applies decree STM 1352/2015 of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health as amended by 2/2023: "PFAS-aineiden summa" (sum of 20 PFAS) at most 0.10 µg/l, that is 100 ng/L, applied from 12 January 2026. There is no national PFAS-4 limit; Sweden applies 4 ng/L. This site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is stricter than both.
Sources, regulators and licences
In Finland, the municipal health protection authorities (kunnan terveydensuojeluviranomainen) monitor drinking water quality under decree STM 1352/2015; the results feed the VATI system of the Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) and are published by the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) through the Drinking Water Directive API, per distribution area. This page shows them per municipality.

Frequently asked questions
How much PFAS is in tap water in Finland?
This page summarises the official PFAS results in the tap water of 287 cities in Finland, published by Ruokavirasto / Syke. The published value is the sum of 20 PFAS (PFAS-20), in nanograms per litre (ng/L); the four EFSA compounds (PFAS-4) are not itemised. The most recent result dates from 8 September 2026. 158 of the 287 cities have a PFAS result, 35 of them a quantified value; the others are below the laboratory's reporting limit. The EU limit for the sum of 20 PFAS is 100 ng/L. No PFAS-4 value that this site could compare with its 0.5 ng/L benchmark is published.
Which city in Finland has the highest PFAS-20 value?
Tervola: 28 ng/L (28 % of the EU limit of 100 ng/L), result of 22 June 2026. Source: Ruokavirasto (VATI) / Suomen ympäristökeskus Syke, Juomavesidirektiivi-rajapinta. The 20 highest values are in the table above.
Which PFAS limits apply in Finland?
Finland applies decree STM 1352/2015 of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health as amended by 2/2023: "PFAS-aineiden summa" (sum of 20 PFAS) at most 0.10 µg/l, that is 100 ng/L, applied from 12 January 2026. There is no national PFAS-4 limit; Sweden applies 4 ng/L. This site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is stricter than both.
Is tap water in Finland safe to drink?
In Finland, the municipal health protection authorities (kunnan terveydensuojeluviranomainen) monitor drinking water quality under decree STM 1352/2015; the results feed the VATI system of the Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) and are published by the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) through the Drinking Water Directive API, per distribution area. This page shows them per municipality. Against the EU limit of 100 ng/L for the sum of 20 PFAS, no covered city is non-compliant. No PFAS-4 value is published in Finland, so a comparison with Sweden's 4 ng/L limit or this site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is not possible. What a result means for you is explained on your city's page.
Where does this data come from?
All values come from official publications: Ruokavirasto (VATI) / Suomen ympäristökeskus Syke, Juomavesidirektiivi-rajapinta. Last retrieved on 28 September 2026; the site refreshes the data weekly, and the latest result date on each city page is authoritative.
