# pfasnearme > Official drinking-water quality data for every French commune, Belgian municipality, > German city or municipality, US community water system (five-state pilot), Finnish > municipality, Norwegian municipality, Estonian municipality and Dutch municipality > with a published result: PFAS ("forever chemicals"), nitrate, lead, hardness and more, > compiled automatically from official sources and refreshed weekly. Coverage at this build: 34,843 French communes (one page each in French and English), 32,033 with at least one published PFAS result, 32,030 with a quantified PFAS-4 result, 5,967 of those above the 0.5 ng/L benchmark. Newest sample in the dataset: 2026-07-31. French values come from Hub'eau, the official French drinking-water quality API (Ministère de la Santé / OFB / BRGM, Licence Ouverte / Etalab). Nothing is estimated or modelled; every page cites its source and sample dates. Belgium at this build: 546 municipalities (285 in Flanders, 261 in Wallonia; Brussels follows), one page each in Dutch, French and English, 546 with a PFAS-4 figure, 264 of those above the 0.5 ng/L benchmark. Newest Belgian result: 2025-12-17. Flemish values are the annual median per supply area from the Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij (VMM) drinking-water workbook (the maximum of the year is shown alongside), Walloon values are sample-level results from the SPW-ARNE / SWDE PFAS monitoring (September 2023 to December 2025). Belgium applies the EU 100 ng/L sum-of-20 limit as binding law and a 4 ng/L PFAS-4 target that becomes binding in 2028; pages call a Flemish maximum above 4 ng/L "above the 2028 target", never a legal failure. Germany at this build: 25 cities and municipalities in 6 Länder, one page each in German and English, 25 with a PFAS-4 figure, 16 of those above the 0.5 ng/L benchmark. Newest German result: 2026-08-03. Germany has no national dataset of PFAS per supply area, so each page comes from the utility's or health office's own publication (Berliner Wasserbetriebe; Hamburg Wasser; RheinEnergie; Leipziger Wasserwerke; N-ERGIE; Stadtwerke Duisburg; WSW Wuppertaler Stadtwerke / Eigenbetrieb Wasser und Abwasser Wuppertal; MVV; Stadtwerke Münster; Stadtwerke Rastatt; Gesundheitsamt Altötting / LGL Bayern): annual medians or means per waterworks, recent lab reports or the quarterly official control sampling of Landkreis Altötting. A city page names every waterworks serving it and leads with the one that has the highest PFAS-4. Germany's Trinkwasserverordnung 2023 makes the EU 100 ng/L sum-of-20 limit binding since 12 January 2026 and sets a 20 ng/L PFAS-4 limit from 12 January 2028; pages call a works above 4 ng/L "above the health reference", never a legal failure. Cities whose utility publishes no PFAS values have no page. United States at this build (five-state pilot): 1,493 community water systems in 5 states (New Jersey 245, Pennsylvania 360, Michigan 307, Massachusetts 261, New York 320), serving 50.3 million people, one page each in English. 354 systems (24 %) have at least one PFAS-4 compound quantified at their headline sample, which is above the 0.5 ng/L benchmark; 323 (22 %) have PFOA or PFOS above the 4.0 ng/L federal MCL at that sample. Newest US sample: 2026-06-17. Values are EPA UCMR 5 results at the entry point to the distribution system, not the tap, with reporting limits of 3 to 4 ng/L: a non-detect reads "below the 3 to 4 ng/L reporting limit", never zero. EPA's caveat applies to every value: "UCMR 5 results do not indicate compliance or noncompliance with the PFAS drinking water standards". US pages compare with two numbers: the site's 0.5 ng/L PFAS-4 benchmark (the same as in Europe; any quantified compound is above it) and the 4.0 ng/L federal MCL for PFOA and for PFOS individually, which water systems must meet from 2029-04-26; a PFOA or PFOS result over 4.0 ng/L is "above the 2029 federal MCL", never a legal failure. The 10 ng/L MCLs for PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA and the Hazard Index (limit 1) are shown as a secondary line because EPA proposed their rescission on 2026-05-20. The EU sum of 20 PFAS is not measured in the United States. The pilot states' own MCLs are listed on the country page. Page kinds: - country https://pfasnearme.com/en/us/ - state https://pfasnearme.com/en/us/state/new-jersey/ - county https://pfasnearme.com/en/us/county/nj/atlantic/ - city https://pfasnearme.com/en/us/city/nj/aberdeen/ - ZIP https://pfasnearme.com/en/us/zip/07003/ - system https://pfasnearme.com/en/us/veolia-water-new-jersey-hackensack-nj0238001/ Finland at this build: 287 municipalities in 18 regions, one page each in Finnish and English, no PFAS-4 published; PFAS-20 on 158 of 287 municipalities (35 quantified, highest 28 ng/L in Tervola on 2026-06-22). Newest result: 2026-09-08. Pages compare the sum of 20 PFAS with the EU 100 ng/L limit and say that PFAS-4 cannot be checked; they never call the water clean or safe. Finland applies decree STM 1352/2015 of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health as amended by 2/2023: "PFAS-aineiden summa" (sum of 20 PFAS) at most 0.10 µg/l, that is 100 ng/L, applied from 12 January 2026. There is no national PFAS-4 limit; Sweden applies 4 ng/L. This site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is stricter than both. Sources: Ruokavirasto (VATI) / Suomen ympäristökeskus Syke, Juomavesidirektiivi-rajapinta (licence: CC BY 4.0). Norway at this build: 357 municipalities in 15 regions, one page each in Norwegian and English, no PFAS-4 published; PFAS-20 on 0 of 357 municipalities (0 quantified). Newest result: 2025-12-31. Pages compare the sum of 20 PFAS with the EU 100 ng/L limit and say that PFAS-4 cannot be checked; they never call the water clean or safe. Norway's drikkevannsforskriften, vedlegg 1, sets "Sum 4 PFAS" (PFOA, PFOS, PFNA, PFHxS) at 0.004 µg/l, that is 4 ng/L, added by forskrift 2025-12-19-2728 and in force since 1 January 2026; waterworks report their annual figures by 15 February of the following year. The regulation contains no limit for the sum of 20 PFAS today. This site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is stricter than the Norwegian limit. Sources: Mattilsynet, Vannverk (vannforsyningssystem_analyse) (licence: NLOD 2.0). Estonia at this build: 78 municipalities in 15 regions, one page each in Estonian and English, no PFAS-4 published; PFAS-20 on 17 of 78 municipalities (1 quantified, highest 3 ng/L in Tallinn on 2025-11-17). Newest result: 2026-07-07. Pages compare the sum of 20 PFAS with the EU 100 ng/L limit and say that PFAS-4 cannot be checked; they never call the water clean or safe. Estonia transposes the EU Drinking Water Directive in regulation no. 61 of the Minister of Social Affairs (sotsiaalministri määrus nr 61): "PFASide summa" (sum of 20 PFAS) at most 0.10 µg/l, that is 100 ng/L. There is no national PFAS-4 limit; the health reference is EFSA's 4 ng/L. This site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is stricter than both. Sources: Terviseamet, veeterviseohutuse infosüsteem (VTI) avaandmed (licence: Avaliku teabe seadus § 31 (avaandmed, litsentsi ei ole avaldatud)). Netherlands at this build: 89 municipalities in 4 regions, one page each in Dutch and English, 34 with a PFAS-4 figure, 33 of those above the 0.5 ng/L benchmark. Newest result: 2026-08-31. The Netherlands applies the EU limit of 100 ng/L for the sum of 20 PFAS in the Drinkwaterbesluit. The RIVM advises a health-based value of 4.4 ng PEQ/L (PFOA equivalents) for all PFAS together; that is an advisory, not a limit. There is no national PFAS-4 limit; the health reference is EFSA's 4 ng/L. This site's 0.5 ng/L benchmark is stricter than all three. Derived from EFSA's 2020 tolerable weekly intake (4.4 ng/kg bw/week) with the same method Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands used for their limits, but protecting a bottle-fed infant and giving water 10 to 15% of the budget. It is a documented proposal, not an official limit, and it is stricter than every legal limit in force. Pages say "above our health benchmark", never "illegal". - 4 ng/L for PFAS-4: Sweden's legal limit since 2026, the strictest legal PFAS-4 limit in force in Europe. Pages use it as the legal reference for PFAS-4. Denmark requires 2 ng/L since 2021; Germany introduces 20 ng/L in 2028. - 100 ng/L for the sum of 20 PFAS: the EU legal limit (Directive 2020/2184, binding since 12 January 2026), which France applies. Above it the water is non-compliant. A commune can be legal (under 100 ng/L) and still above the 0.5 ng/L benchmark or above Sweden's 4 ng/L; pages show all three comparisons. Non-detects count as zero, so PFAS-4 sums are lower bounds; when the lab's detection limit is above the benchmark the page says the check is inconclusive rather than showing a pass. US pages keep the 0.5 ng/L benchmark and replace the European legal lines with the federal MCL for PFOA and PFOS (see the United States section); no sum of 20 there. ## Pages - Homepage with address lookup, national statistics and ranking: https://pfasnearme.com/fr/ (also /en/, /nl/, /de/, /fi/, /no/, /et/; the Dutch homepage leads with the Belgian search, the German homepage with the German search; every homepage has a section per country) - Country summary pages, one per country in each of its languages: coverage, share of municipalities at or above 0.5 ng/L and above 4 ng/L, the 20 highest and 20 lowest values, every region/province/department hub with counts, national limits, sources with licences, a country-level Dataset and a citation block. The URL is stable; the "revision" field changes when the data behind it changes. US reports add a "us" block (PWSID, state, counties, ZIPs, entry points, treatment codes, PFOA and PFOS maxima over every sample). - Each page's "Source and citation" block repeats the source link, licence, latest result date, retrieval date and a ready-made citation sentence in the page language. - There is no bulk download or query API; the sitemaps list every page URL and the report JSON is one request per commune. Please crawl politely. ## Sources and licences pfasnearme's own texts, calculations and JSON files are CC BY 4.0 (credit "pfasnearme", link the page). Each source below keeps its own licence. Every product record names the NSF/ANSI standard it is certified or tested to, the manufacturer's published PFOA/PFOS figure with its source URL and retrieval date, cartridge cost, installation, price band and delivery markets (FR, BE, DE). "Certified" means an IAPMO R&T or NSF listing; "tested" means a manufacturer-commissioned laboratory report. Buy links are affiliate links and are labelled as such on the pages; the data comes from the manufacturers' and certifiers' documents, not from the partners. No certified filter guarantees reaching the 0.5 ng/L benchmark or the 4 ng/L legal reference. - Waterdrop G3P800: PFOA/PFOS up to 99% (independent certification; NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58, 372 certified), checked 2026-09-19: https://pfasnearme.com/en/filters/waterdrop-g3p800/ (also /fr/, /nl/, /de/) - ZeroWater 1.7 L jug: PFOA/PFOS 94.9% (independent certification; NSF/ANSI 42, 53 certified), checked 2026-09-19: https://pfasnearme.com/en/filters/zerowater-1-7l-jug/ (also /fr/, /nl/, /de/) - Aquasana SmartFlow Reverse Osmosis (AQ-SFRO2): no published PFAS figure (independent certification; NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58, 401, CSA B483.1 certified), checked 2026-09-19: https://pfasnearme.com/en/filters/aquasana-smartflow-ro/ (also /fr/, /nl/, /de/) - Culligan ZeroWater ZP-010 10-cup pitcher: no published PFAS figure (independent certification; NSF/ANSI 42, 53 certified), checked 2026-09-19: https://pfasnearme.com/en/filters/zerowater-10-cup-pitcher/ (also /fr/, /nl/, /de/) - Waterdrop X12 (US): no published PFAS figure (independent certification; NSF/ANSI 42, 58, 372 certified), checked 2026-09-19: https://pfasnearme.com/en/filters/waterdrop-x12/ (also /fr/, /nl/, /de/) ## Citing When citing a value, include the commune name, the sample date shown on the page and the page URL. Data is refreshed weekly; the "latest sample" date on each page is authoritative. Say "above pfasnearme's 0.5 ng/L health benchmark" for the benchmark comparison and "above Sweden's 4 ng/L legal limit" or "above the EU 100 ng/L limit" for the legal ones; they are different statements. Flemish headline values are annual medians per supply area, not a dated tap sample; say "annual median 2024" for them. For a US system say "above the 4.0 ng/L federal MCL for PFOA" (or PFOS) for the legal comparison, name the entry point and sample date, and add that UCMR 5 results do not indicate compliance or noncompliance with the PFAS drinking water standards. Contact: rapport@pfasnearme.com. --- # Methodology: our health benchmark for PFAS, 0.5 ng/L On every commune page we compare the water with a benchmark of 0.5 ng/L for the sum of the four most harmful PFAS: PFOA, PFOS, PFNA and PFHxS ("PFAS-4"). The benchmark is a proposal by this site, built from the published research. It is not an official limit. ## The proposal - At most 0.5 ng/L for the sum of PFOA + PFOS + PFNA + PFHxS, as an annual average. - No single one of these four substances above 0.25 ng/L. - For PFOA and PFOS the long-term health goal remains zero. Ideally each substance would be weighted by toxicity (the Dutch RIVM "PFOA equivalents" method). Public data does not yet allow that everywhere, so the site uses the simple sum of the four. ## Why 0.5 ng/L In 2020 EFSA set a tolerable weekly intake for these four PFAS of 4.4 ng per kg of body weight per week, 0.63 ng/kg/day. For a 70 kg adult that is about 44 ng per day from everything eaten and drunk. The main evidence is reduced vaccine response in children with higher PFAS blood levels. Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands built their drinking-water limits on this budget. Turning a daily budget into a water concentration takes two decisions: who you protect (an adult drinks about 0.03 L per kg per day, a bottle-fed infant about 0.15 L/kg/day, five times as much for its size) and what share of the budget water may use (WHO default 20%, the older stricter convention 10%). | Limit | Set by | Person protected | Water's share | | 4.4 ng/L | Netherlands, RIVM guideline | adult 70 kg, 2 L/day | 20% | | 4 ng/L | Sweden, legal since 2026 | adult | 20% | | 2 ng/L | Denmark, legal since 2021 | small child | 10% | | 0.5 ng/L | this site, proposal | bottle-fed infant | 10 to 15% | Same science, different safety margins. The arithmetic: 0.63 ng/kg/day x 10 to 15% / 0.15 L/kg/day = 0.4 to 0.6 ng/L, rounded to 0.5 ng/L. At Sweden's 4 ng/L a highly water-exposed infant would use about 95% of the EFSA budget from water alone; at 0.5 ng/L about 12%. ## Why the cautious end - Food already fills most of the budget. Livsmedelsverket estimates a typical adult gets about half the tolerable amount from food, and 43% of 4-year-olds exceed the whole budget from food alone. DTU limited water to 10% for this reason. - The scientific report behind Sweden's 4 ng/L finds a 4-year-old has room for only about 0.3 to 0.7 ng/L in water after typical food intake. - EFSA's budget may not be cautious enough: a 2023 reanalysis of the vaccine data (Budtz-Jørgensen and Grandjean) points to serum benchmarks of 1.5 to 4 ng/mL, well below EFSA's 17.5 ng/mL; the US health goal for PFOA and PFOS is zero; IARC classes PFOA as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) and PFOS as possibly carcinogenic (2B). Caveat: EFSA designed its budget for lifetime intake, not literally for infants. The bottle-fed infant is used as the most exposed realistic person, to show how little room 4 ng/L leaves, not as a strict infant risk model. ## How the site applies it - The four substances from the latest public check are summed; the benchmark is meant as an annual average, so the page also shows the 12-month mean where history exists. - Substances below the detection limit count as zero, so totals are lower bounds. When the lab's limits are too coarse to conclude anything the page says so. - The benchmark is stricter than every legal limit: water "above our benchmark" can be perfectly legal. - Results attach to the distribution network, not only the commune. When the sampled tap stood in a neighbouring commune on the same network, the page names it. ## Sources - EFSA (2020), Risk to human health related to the presence of perfluoroalkyl substances in food - Livsmedelsverket, LIVSFS 2022:12 (PFAS 4 = 4 ng/L, PFAS 21 = 100 ng/L, 2026) and the 2021 scientific report behind it - EU Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184 (Sum of PFAS 0.10 µg/L, PFAS Total 0.50 µg/L) - US EPA (2024), PFOA and PFOS MCL 4.0 ng/L, MCLG zero - RIVM (2021), drinking-water guideline 4.4 ng/L as PFOA equivalents - IARC (2023), PFOA Group 1, PFOS Group 2B - Budtz-Jørgensen and Grandjean (2023), benchmark dose calculations for PFAS immunotoxicity - Li et al.
